ER burnout I feel is especially high following the pandemic. You hit the main point that our system in the US is broken, the exhaustion felt by all emergency providers is at an all time high.

I really appreciate your perspective on the field of emergency medicine. Could you please do why you didn't do general surgery, or orthopedic surgery ? Taking into consideration that one might be interested in intervention/ electrophysiology cardiology, what do you think are the benefits and cons to both side.

Can I use image occlusion, but instead of clicking and just seeing the answer, I have to type in the answer? because sometimes I seem to remember much more when I need to type in what I've hidden than just pressing a button and seeing the answer

When I was a fellow and had a little "spare time", I studied. But spare time was rare because there were always opportunities to learn more. Fellowship is that time when you are surrounded by outstanding experts in your field who are there to help you become outstanding, too. Every hour should be fruitful.

  • @simperingham

I get that you mean well, but I don’t love the phrasing of doctors having “ownership” of their patients 😂

  • @wholeNwon

That was very good advice. I was offered opportunities in other areas that would undoubtedly have paid very handsomely and yet would also have been boring at best. I loved cardiology and was recognized by my colleagues as having been very good at it. My pts. included several med. school professors, one med. sch. dean, other distinguished people, etc. I taught CV medicine almost every day and that was very personally rewarding (as well as being required by the Hippocratic Oath). My income was 3-4x the numbers you gave. That enabled me to treat large numbers of pts. with no cost to them (free or assignment) and could even often supply medications as well. I found that part of my practice very gratifying. Don't go into medicine/surgery for the money. Or if your personal integrity is easily challenged. Do it only because you absolutely love it, can devote all of your energy to it and can work every day to continually improve your skills.

Thank you! I just took the MCAT today--the third time. I don't feel confident, and I had to guess at a lot of questions. I got less than 500 on the practice AAMC exams. This is very helpful. I know the AAMC allows us 8 times to take it, but...I hope not. I will wait for my score, but I don't believe it's near 500. May your channel grow. It's helping people...🙂🙂🙂
